Much of this route is along beautiful Morro Bay. Walkers will
visit the Sweet Springs Nature Reserve and the Elfin Forest (a small wilderness
of Pygmy Oaks and a coastal brackish marsh that is home to many endangered
species). They will also walk along quiet residential streets – the
kind featured in magazines. Plenty of benches make stopping and watching
and Bay and its wildlife very easy. The basic route is 11 km. Take the
option loop in the Elfin Forest and it is a 14 km event. AVA Rating is 1+. |

Information: |
Blessed with spectacular natural beauty on all sides — and literally
surrounded by thousands of acres of State Parks, nature preserves, historical
sites, agricultural open space and State Reserves —Los Osos/Baywood Park
is far off the beaten tourist track and offers numerous opportunities for
those who love the outdoors! Los Osos/Baywood Park is an unincorporated
area located on the beautiful Central Coast of California, situated at
the south end of the tidal estuary known as Morro Bay on the Pacific Ocean.
Los Osos is also known as the Valley of the Bears. Los Osos was home
to Chumash Indians for thousands of years. European explorers, led
by Don Gaspar de Portola, arrived September 7, 1769. Named after the now
extinct California Grizzly, the valley ownership changed hands many times
until September 24, 1845, when Governor Pio Poco granted land to John Wilson
and James Scott. By 1882, the area was known as Los Osos and was a valley
dotted with small farms and dairies.
